About Baxters

Baxters was established in July 2006 when Sarah Duggan took over Hartworks gallery. After too many years of saying “one day, I’ll own a gallery”, Sarah decided that Dartmouth and Baxters would be where she would enjoy life and her passion for the arts.

The bright and airy space of Baxters shows off the best in contemporary art, printmaking, craft and jewellery. The atmosphere is relaxed and hopefully inspiring, allowing you to take your time in choosing from established and new artists. Prices are accessible to introduce you to the handmade world and start at a few pounds.

Several themes are evident, a strong inspiration from the Devon & Cornwall coastline captured by many of the artists, including many local views. Other work reflects a subtle sense of humour or the quirkiness of animal-life. An annual May exhibition & the regular introduction of new work ensures an interesting visit for art lovers.

There is a wide selection of prints of Dartmouth and the local area from John Gillo and Helena Clews. John has been a Dartmouth artist for over 40 years and we are proud to represent him here. We also usually have paintings of the area in a variety of styles, perfect for reminding you of your favourite place.

Many of the artists and makers shown in Baxters have worked with Sarah for a long time ensuring that she can show the best selection with new work arriving weekly. Some have started their art or creative careers by showing at Baxters and this makes for long and enjoyable friendships and work relationships.

Sarah is passionate about buying handmade and everything in the gallery is handmade in the UK. Each piece of work has been handpicked to make a collection that will hopefully put a smile on your face and your make your shoulders go down.
