Wendy Wilbraham has been making mosaic tiles since settling in Cornwall with her daughter.
Having always been a gatherer and reluctant to part with shards of ceramic collected locally, Wendy found great inspiration during her travels to Mexico, Spain, Portugal and Morocco. She identified with the element of the haphazard, in using broken china and found objects to create something unique and so her tiles were born.
Her use of cement and traditional cobbling embodies and interest in the method of rhythmic placement. The grey grounding, a reflection of the many greys from the ever changing sky, soft sea mist, granite stone and scantle roofing that surround her Cornish home.
Prior to her move to Cornwall, Wendy spent several years as a successful ceramicist after qualifying from the Camberwell school of Art. She has taught in several schools in the UK and West Africa and is furthering her studies at Falmouth College where she is completing an MA.
