Nancy Pickard was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1963. She was raised and educated in the Channel Islands and then at the Central School of Art, London and University of Wales Institute, Cardiff. She moved to West Cornwall in 2002 and made this her home where she lived and worked in a 200 year old converted Wesleyan Chapel. She has recently moved to Devon and lives in Buckfastleigh.
Her understanding of all kinds of art and her insight into working with a variety of media yields work that is both refreshing and original.
An all-round artist who cannot be categorised - painter, artist, jewellery maker, sculptor, ceramicist - Nancy finds the history and landscape of the region a great inspiration. Her paintings and wall pieces are remarkable and bold. The quirky subject matter is infused with the cultural and natural history of the region as interpreted in a wide variety of media: paintings, ceramics, collages and metal work. Humour is often present in Nancy’s creations and her works are very much her own ‘invention’
Her sculptural jewellery is made by enameling onto hand cut pieces of silver. Each piece is unique and she never makes two pieces the same.
